A cashier at a diner in Tulsa handed me my change wrong last week and now I always count it back twice

She shorted me $2 by counting the bills backwards and I almost walked out without noticing, has this happened to anyone else at a busy register?

Oh man, "counted the bills backwards" - that hits too close to home. I once had a cashier at a gas station hand me my change all crumpled up and I just shoved it in my pocket without looking... turned out she gave me a $5 instead of a $20. I felt like a detective counting pennies in my car later. Now I always spread the bills out on the counter like I'm playing solitaire before walking away. It's probably annoying to the person behind me but hey, at least I'm not losing money anymore.

Bruh @the_holly the solitaire move is genius though. I swear cashiers try to hand you your change like it's a hot potato sometimes. I just stare at them now until they lay it flat, not trying to play hide and seek with my money later.

Read somewhere that some places actually train cashiers to hand change back a certain way to avoid scams. Makes you wonder if the crumpled ball technique is just laziness or if it's on purpose.
