Back in the day, our climbing ropes were just thick garden hose

We'd tie knots in old hose for ascents, and it would kink and twist every time. Now with proper arborist rope, I laugh thinking how we ever managed. What's the funniest outdated tool you relied on before better gear came along?

Yeah, the garden hose climbing idea is wild. My friend tried to use one to get onto his roof when we were teenagers. It gave way and he landed in his mom's flower bed, which was kinda funny but also super scary.
