Remember when we used to trade fansub VHS tapes at conventions?

At Anime Expo 2004 this guy named Dave handed me a tape of Owaru no Erobeyo (yeah that obscure one) and said 'this changes how you see the medium' and he was right, I still think about that conversation by the dealer room doors. Anyone else have a random con stranger who shaped their taste?

Funny how those random trades hit harder than the hyped ones, Dave probably saved you from a decade of watching the same three mecha shows everyone else swore by. The real gold was always in the bootlegs nobody could find online, that's where your actual taste got built.
