Just realized I've been watching dubbed shows wrong this whole time
Last week I was chatting with a guy at the anime meetup in downtown Austin. He said he watches everything subbed first and dubbed second for stuff he really likes. I always just picked one and stuck with it. He told me 'you're missing half the performance by only watching one version' and it kinda hit me different. Like the voice actors bring different energy to each language. Now I'm rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood in dub after seeing it subbed years ago and it's like a new show. Anyone else do double watches like that?

That's an interesting take but I gotta disagree a bit here. @viola_ward, I see where you're coming from but I think watching something twice in a row like that takes away from the first experience you know? Like you're already thinking about the second version while the first one is still fresh. Subbed and dubbed both have their own timing and pacing that works best when you're just immersed in the story without comparing them. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood especially has that iconic english dub that stands on its own, no need to watch it again just to catch different voice acting choices. Maybe I'm old school but a single good version should do the job, otherwise you end up nitpicking instead of just enjoying the ride.
