I finally saw the ethical dilemma in that character's decision

Their choice to lie saved lives but cost their honor.

Watching The Wire, Bunk kept a murder quiet to protect a kid from the system. His badge felt dirty but that boy got a real chance. I had to cover for a friend's family emergency once, told our boss he was sick. Felt wrong lying but getting him fired over a hospital visit would have been worse. How do you live with the choice after?

Yeah the "cost their honor" part used to really get me. I was big on rules, thought lying was always the wrong move. Then my sister lied about a work mistake I made to save my job. Her honesty took a hit but my family kept eating. Sometimes the clean choice leaves real damage behind.

Rules look different when real people are on the line. My dad took the blame for a broken window at his shop so a young guy didn't get a record. The boss knew, but played along. That lie bought someone a future. You carry the weight because the other choice was heavier.
