Oh man, I feel your pain on this one big time. What finally worked for me was just marking the calibration due date right on the tool with a silver Sharpie so I can't forget or ignore it. Also started using a simple logbook in my toolbox drawer to note every time I drop or smack one, since that can knock them out way before the cycle is up. I send my beam style ones out every six months now and honestly it's saved me from ruining some pricey engine parts. Best lesson I ever learned was that a torque wrench is only as good as its last check, no matter how much you spent on it.

Marked mine with a date sticker and started using a logbook after smacking one off a stand.
