Buddy at the trailhead told me my tire pressure was way too high for sand
I used to run my 33s at 30 psi for everything, pavement and dirt. This guy with a beat up old Land Cruiser walked over and said I was basically floating on top of the sand, not digging in. He showed me his gauge and he was at 15 psi. Dropped mine to 18 near Glamis last weekend and holy moly, the truck actually hooked up and climbed dunes I'd been spinning out on for months. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them a tip that totally changed their off road game?

Dropped my 32s to 20 psi on a tip from a guy at Pismo and it was night and day.

Man that Land Cruiser guy knew his stuff. I read somewhere that sand is basically like driving on a billion tiny ball bearings and you need way less tire pressure so the tread can actually squirm and grab instead of just skimming the top. Dropping from 30 to 18 is a huge difference, I bet you felt the truck settle in and just start pulling hard. I've heard guys running 12 psi in the really soft stuff but that's pushing it for a daily driver. Bet your traction control was way less cranky too.
