TIL laser levels can be a game changer for stone walls
I always stuck with string lines and my trusty level for dry stack walls. A friend convinced me to try his laser on a recent garden project. It kept everything so straight and even from the start. Now I get why some masons love them for consistency. I was totally wrong to ignore this tool for so long.

Straight and even from the start" is exactly it. I read a contractor's blog post about dry stacking a garden wall with a laser level. He said the big thing he learned was to set the laser line and then just check each stone's high point against it, instead of trying to get a level on the rough top. It made the whole process way faster.

I wasted so much time with a spirit level before reading that same blog post eva_adams68 mentioned. The laser high-point trick completely changed how I stack stone now.

That method really locks each course in place for a solid, lasting wall.
