Vent: 6 years of fighting with a hand rammer before I got a pneumatic one
I used to spend 45 minutes hand ramming every single cope and drag for my small iron pours. Finally picked up a used Ingersoll Rand pneumatic rammer off a retiring guy for $200 back in March, now I knock out the same job in 15 minutes. Anyone else put off upgrading a simple tool way longer than they should have?

I spent a whole year hand mixing mortar before I got a mixer.

Hand mixing mortar for a whole year" - that's rough, man. My back hurts just thinking about it. What was the breaking point that finally made you say "I need a mixer"? Was it a specific job that pushed you over, or just the cumulative pain?

Wait, you actually survived a full year of that? I'm genuinely in awe (and also questioning your sanity a little bit). I had to hand mix for a single retaining wall job once, and by the third wheelbarrow load I was googling mixer prices on my phone with mortar-stained fingers.
