Found a 1943 love letter in a used copy of 'The Great Gatsby' and I'm torn about what to do with it

I used to believe old letters were just trash to be thrown out. Finding my grandfather's war diary made me realize these are real pieces of someone's life. You should try to find the family if you can, maybe through a local historical group. That letter is a connection to people who are probably long gone. It feels wrong to just keep it or toss it when it might mean the world to a grandchild somewhere. Giving it back is the right thing to do.

Ever think about how many stories get lost because someone just tosses a box? Good on you for seeing the value.

Totally agree with this. My aunt found some old love letters in her attic from the 1920s. She tracked down the great-granddaughter online and mailed them to her. The family had no pictures of that ancestor, just a name. They cried when they got the package. It really does matter.
