My sauerkraut blew up on the kitchen counter last week
I had a 5-gallon crock of kraut going and forgot to burp it for like 3 days. Came home to brine dripping down the cabinets and cabbage shreds all over the floor from the pressure pop. Anyone else have a batch go volcano on them?

omg a 5-gallon crock? I can barely handle my little 2-quart jars without something going wrong. That must have been a nightmare to clean up, all that brine and cabbage shreds stuck in every crack and cranny. I would have just stood there staring at the mess for a solid five minutes before even thinking about grabbing a sponge.

Bruh that's nothing compared to the time I tried to pickle a whole watermelon in a 10 gallon trash can. Thought I was being clever and used a food grade bucket from the hardware store. Didn't realize the lid wasn't sealed right and the whole thing fermented on my porch for like 3 weeks before I checked on it. The smell alone made my neighbor call the cops thinking something died in my yard. Had to dump it in a friend's truck bed and drive it to a dumpster across town because my regular garbage pickup wouldn't touch it.
