Picked a rock out of a hoof at the state fairgrounds back in 2005
I was resetting shoes for a draft horse at the Illinois State Fairgrounds when a mare kicked a chunk of gravel into my thumb. Took me three tries to get it all out with a pick and a magnet. After that I started carrying a small first aid kit in my apron, never had to stop work for a trip to the ER since. Any of you guys have a close call that made you change your setup?

Magnet sounds clever but I bet a shop vac with a narrow tip would suck that gravel right out.

I tried a shop vac first and it was a TOTAL mess, the magnet trick actually saved my driveway.

Actually shop vacs are TERRIBLE for gravel. The rocks will just rattle around and clog up the hose or damage the impeller. A magnet is WAY safer and honestly faster if it's just metal bits mixed in.
