Just trimmed my 500th hoof this year and the number hit me

It was a big draft horse this morning that made it official. I never kept count before, but seeing that total made me realize how much wear my tools have taken. Anyone else track their numbers and find it changes how you view your gear maintenance?

You think tracking numbers makes the work feel like a grind? For me, it's the opposite because seeing the wear helps me plan ahead. It means I'm not caught off guard when a blade finally gives out.

Honestly, is keeping count like that even helpful? It just seems like it would make the work feel more like a grind. I get that tools wear out, but they're meant to be used, not babied. Maybe just sharpen your stuff when it needs it and call it a day.

Sharpen when it needs it? My blades would be ruined in a week.
