Back when every farm had its own anvil, we'd swap stories while the iron cooled.
Now it's all mobile rigs and quick jobs, no time to chat.

Watched my buddy get his truck tire fixed last week by some guy in a van. The mechanic had the bead seated again in maybe 90 seconds flat, took a digital payment, and just drove off to the next call. My friend said the whole thing felt like a drive-thru, no joke about the weather or nothing. That old feeling of a job well done and taking a minute to breathe with someone is just gone now.

Yeah, that part about 'taking a minute to breathe with someone' really hits home. I read an article last week about how app-based services focus on speed over everything else. It said mechanics get lower ratings if they spend extra time, even just being friendly. The writer talked to van mechanics who miss the old way, but now it's all about numbers and quick payments.

Remembered getting annoyed last week because the barista was chatting with the guy in front of me about his dog. I was literally tapping my foot, thinking 'just make the latte, my dude.' Felt like a total jerk later. We're all getting trained to value the transaction over the tiny human moment, and I'm over here failing the vibe check.
