My cousin mentioned our grandma's secret ingredient for her potato salad

She said it was a tablespoon of pickle juice, which I'd never heard before. It totally brought back memories of those big family picnics in her backyard. Does anyone else have a surprising 'secret' ingredient in a family dish?

Actually, my mom always insisted it was the juice from sweet pickles, not dill. That tiny bit of sugar makes a big difference in cutting through the mayo.

Wasn't it a teaspoon, not a tablespoon? I remember her saying just a little splash was key.

Read a blog post that swore by a teaspoon for the best flavor.
