I compared my grandma's cast iron cornbread with my aunt's nonstick version side by side last Sunday
The cast iron one had that crispy crust that made the whole difference, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has a relative who stubbornly insists their way is better even when the proof is right there on the plate?

Your aunt does the brown sugar glaze too? EXACT same situation in my family. Here's what actually works: stop comparing them out loud and just start bringing the cast iron version to every gathering yourself. I finally did that with my grandma's recipe and now my aunt's nonstick cornbread sits untouched while people fight over the last piece of mine. Nobody says a word about whose is better, they just eat it. The scrubbing is REAL though, I soak mine overnight with a little water and hit it with a chainmail scrubber. Saves your sanity.

Oh man, my mom is exactly like that with her meatloaf! She swears the only way to make it is with ketchup on top but my aunt does this brown sugar glaze thing that is honestly way better. I mean, I tried to be subtle about it once and suggested we try it her way and my mom just looked at me like I'd insulted her entire existence. Idk maybe it's just me but I've learned to just eat the ketchup version when she's around and sneak the good stuff at family dinners. The crispy crust thing is real though, I'd take that over nonstick any day even if it means scrubbing the pan for an hour.

yeah thats basically a rite of passage at this point, kelly_craig. your mom is just protecting the family legacy of dry ketchup meatloaf. i respect the hustle of eating the bad version to keep the peace though, thats true loyalty right there.
