Why does nobody mention what happens when you stop explaining yourself
I quit giving reasons for every little choice, like why I picked the slow lane at the store. Now my friends think I'm either keeping secrets or forgot how to talk, which is a new kind of quiet. Has anyone else found that less talking leads to more confusion?

Yeah it's weird how that works. I had to learn to just say "because I wanted to" with a shrug when people push. They usually drop it after that. It feels rude at first but it's not, you're just holding a boundary. The confusion on their end is their problem to sort out, not yours to fix by talking more.

Man, @piperm38, that hits home. I used to give these long, rambling reasons for every little choice, like my therapist was grading me. Finally got tired of hearing my own voice. My version of "because I wanted to" still sounds like a nervous robot, but it's progress.
