I finally fixed my awkward follow-up after a bad pitch in Denver

I was at a startup mixer in Denver last month and completely blanked on my company's revenue numbers when an investor asked. I emailed him the next day saying 'I was nervous, here are the real figures' and got no reply. What's a better way to recover from a flubbed answer at an event?

Heard about a buddy who did something similar. He sent a quick follow-up with the right numbers, but he also added one new, small piece of info he'd just learned. Made it seem like an update, not a correction. Worked way better for him.

Wait, I gotta be honest, that feels a bit sneaky to me. Like, you're still fixing a mistake but trying to hide it. If I got an email with a "new update" that just had corrected numbers, I'd see right through it. I'd rather someone just say "Hey, my bad, here's the right info." Feels more straight-up. The extra fluff just makes it seem like you're trying too hard not to look wrong.

That's a solid move. Adding a tiny update makes the whole thing feel more natural, like you're just keeping them in the loop. Takes the sting out of having to fix a mistake.
