My uncle swore by using a hair dryer for heat shrink, but it ruined a board for me.
He told me to just use the high setting on a cheap Conair dryer I had, said it worked fine for him for years. I tried it on a PS4 power supply board, and the uneven heat warped a capacitor right off its pads. Had to source a whole new board for the client, which cost me about $75 out of pocket. Anyone else have a 'handy' tip from family that totally backfired on a repair?

Oh man, that's rough. My dad once told me to fix a wobbly table by just hammering some random nails into the leg. It split the wood right down the middle.

Remember when everyone's dad had that one weird fix for everything? Mine swore by duct tape for any kind of leak, which, you know, never held up. It's like they had a contest to see who could make a small problem way bigger with the wrong tool.

Classic dad fix right there. They always go straight for the hammer like it's the only tool in the box. Drives me nuts because it usually makes things way worse. You gotta check if the joints are loose first or maybe just shim the short leg. Now you've got a split leg and a still-wobbly table.
