Took a consultant's advice on pricing and lost 3 clients in one week

I met this business coach at the Edmonton Chamber mixer back in March. He told me to raise my rates by 25% and that clients would respect me more for it. I did it on April 1st and three of my regulars told me they were switching to a cheaper guy. Now I'm stuck calling them back to see if I can get their business again. Has anyone else had a pricing strategy backfire this bad?

Wow, April 1st of all days? That's almost too on the nose for a bad omen.

Wait actually April 1st isn't considered a bad omen thing, it's just April Fools Day. People used to think it was unlucky to start stuff on that day but that's more of a superstition thing, not some real omen or anything.

That April Fools thing with the date is funny but I once painted my fence on Friday the 13th and it rained three days straight.
