Rant: Lost a client because I didn't check their LinkedIn profile
Met a guy at the Edmonton Chamber lunch mixer last month. Seemed like a great fit for my services. Didn't check his LinkedIn until after he ghosted me - turns out he was a direct competitor in disguise.

Wait, you're telling me this guy was at a real networking event pretending to be a potential client, but he was just a competitor doing recon? That's such a sneaky move, I can't believe people actually do that. It sucks you put in the time and effort talking to him, only to find out he was wasting your time on purpose. I totally get why you'd feel burned by that - trust is everything in this business, and once it's broken, it's hard to bounce back. Hopefully, karma catches up with him, and you end up finding way better clients who are actually legit.

One mixer conversation is hardly a disaster though.

Seriously, someone actually pretended to be a potential client just to spy on your product ideas? That's next level shady lmao. Mixer conversations are supposed to be low key but not THAT kind of low. I can't even imagine talking to someone for 10 minutes and then finding out they were just writing down everything you said to use against you. That would make me paranoid about every single person I meet at those things.
