Pro tip: I hit 50 local connections on LinkedIn last month and it actually started bringing in work
I mean, I've been slowly adding people from Edmonton business events for like 6 months, just collecting names. Last week, I got a message from a guy I met at a Chamber thing asking if I could help with a small website project. He said he saw I was connected to his old boss, which made him reach out. It wasn't a huge job, but it was my first real lead that came just from having a local network online. Has anyone else noticed a specific number where their online connections start paying off?

Honestly, that's a solid point about the local connections. Do you think it matters more that they're local, or just that you have a decent number of them?

My buddy's local plumber fixed a leak after hours just because he recognized the address, @davis.ben. A random online booking wouldn't have done that.

That local connection thing davis.ben mentioned makes me think of my old mechanic. He was just down the street, not part of some big chain. I knew his name, he knew my car's weird noises. When my alternator died, he found a used part from a local junk yard and saved me a ton. A dozen far away contacts wouldn't have gotten that done. It's the trust that comes from being in the same community.
