Pro tip: check the business license before you partner up, even if they seem legit

Last month, I almost went into a deal with a guy who said he ran a delivery service out of Sherwood Park. Met him at a networking lunch, everything sounded good. I did a quick search on the Alberta corporate registry before signing anything, and his business wasn't even registered. He had a website and a logo and everything. Saved myself a major headache and probably a lot of cash. Anyone else had to dodge a bullet like this in a deal here?
