Just saw the numbers on downtown Edmonton office vacancies and wow.
Was reading a report from Avison Young the other day. Downtown office vacancy is sitting at over 30%. That's huge. Makes you think about all the small businesses that rely on that foot traffic. How are you guys adapting your client strategies with so many people still working from home?

That Avison Young report is actually for the overall Edmonton office market, not just downtown. The downtown core vacancy is even higher, sitting at around 35.6% last I checked. It's a key difference because the suburban office parks are doing a bit better, which pulls the average down. So the downtown situation is even more stark for those small businesses. It really forces a total rethink of who your customer is and when they're actually around.

A local cafe owner told me their lunch rush is basically gone now.

Morgan_bailey93 makes a good point about the downtown core being even emptier. My own strategy has been to perfect the art of talking to houseplants, since they're my main clientele now. You have to get creative when your target market has switched from office workers to a ficus. At least the rent is cheap when your office is your living room.
