Hit 30 new local connections from one Chamber of Commerce mixer and it actually felt like a win

I went to that event on Jasper Ave last Tuesday expecting maybe five decent chats, but that number made me realize how much just showing up and talking to real people still matters here.

My friend Jake went to a work mixer last month and said he met exactly 17 people in two hours. He practiced his handshake so much his arm was sore, and he still mixed up two people's names by the end. He told me he actually considered the bathroom hideout but was worried someone would try to network under the stall door. How do you even recover from meeting that many strangers at once?

Oh man, the bathroom hideout fear is so real. I went to a conference once and my brain just shut down after the tenth introduction. I started calling this one guy Mark for half an hour, his name was Mike. In my experience, you just have to accept the name mix-up and laugh it off later. The real recovery is just going home and not talking to anyone for a solid evening.
