Reading an old trade magazine from 1985 and the weight of a standard sheet was different

Found a stack of them at a garage sale. They listed a 4x8 sheet of half-inch as 54 pounds, but now it's usually 57 or 58. That extra few pounds per sheet really adds up over a day. Anyone else notice how the materials themselves have gotten heavier over the years?

Guess my back pain isn't just from getting older, the plywood is literally working against me. Wonder what they changed in the recipe?

Seriously, it's not just plywood. Drywall used to be way lighter too. I helped my buddy redo a ceiling in a house built in the 70s, and the old sheets we pulled down felt like cardboard compared to the new stuff. They must be adding more gypsum or something to meet fire codes now. Makes you wonder if the studs in new houses are groaning under the extra weight.

Feel like I'm getting weaker every time I carry a sheet. I mean, Jackson.matthew is onto something, it's not just in our heads. Maybe the extra weight is why my weekend projects take twice as long now.
