Update: My neighbor said he fixed his leaky faucet with a single washer from a kit he got for $4.

I was talking to him over the fence yesterday and he mentioned the drip had been driving him crazy for weeks. He said he watched a short video online, turned off the water, and had it done in maybe 15 minutes. I always assumed you had to replace the whole cartridge or call a plumber. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that work out when you thought it would be a bigger job?

Replaced a noisy bathroom fan motor last month after a YouTube tutorial. Thought for sure I'd need an electrician, but it was just two wires and a mounting bracket. Felt pretty good to fix it myself for under twenty bucks.

Good for you, @chen.adam. I always assumed those bathroom fan jobs were a real hassle. My old one rattled for years because I was sure it needed a pro. Seeing your post makes me realize I probably could have handled it myself and saved the service call fee. It's amazing what you can learn online now. That feeling of fixing something and saving money is hard to beat.

That feeling of saving money is the best, right? Why do we always assume it's a bigger job than it is?
