The plumber who fixed my dripping faucet with a zip tie

He was at my house in Portland about two months ago and instead of replacing the cartridge he just wrapped a zip tie around the valve stem. It's been dry ever since, has anyone else had a pro do something that looked hacky but actually worked?

I mean yeah but that's just gonna fail eventually right? A zip tie is not made for constant water pressure and heat cycles... it's gonna get brittle and snap when you least expect it.

Is it just me or does this apply to half the stuff we buy now? I fixed a garden hose with a zip tie once and it actually held up for like two years, but I knew it was gonna fail the whole time, just waiting for it. That's the thing though, people use what they got and hope for the best, and sometimes it works out but you're right, it's a ticking bomb. We're all just out here slap-dashing things together and praying they don't blow up in our faces.

lol @theac63 you're so right, it's like we all know the fix is temporary but we're just trying to get through the next few months without buying a whole new thing. That zip tie on a garden hose is a classic though, I did the same thing on a lawnmower pull cord once and it held for a whole summer before snapping mid-pull and whipping me in the hand. These days I feel like even the stuff that's supposed to be sturdy comes with a built-in expiration date, so what's the point in overthinking it.
