Cut my hand bad trying to open a stuck window last month
Was at my grandma's old house in St. Louis trying to get the kitchen window unstuck after years of paint sealing it shut. Used a putty knife wrong and slipped, needed 4 stitches at urgent care. Anyone got tips for breaking old painted windows loose without ending up in the ER?

You tried a putty knife? Next time use a heat gun to soften the paint first.

@sean782 mentioned the heat gun, and that's a solid tip. But what nobody's saying is to check if the window frame has any old lead paint on it. Grandma's house from years back probably has layers of that stuff, and heating it up can release toxic fumes. A mask and good ventilation are a must before you even touch that heat gun. Also, try a thin piece of plastic like a credit card between the blade and the frame to stop the blade from slipping sideways.
