That time I unjammed a fuel injector with a PB Blaster soaked rag and a prayer lol

I had a 6.0 Powerstroke that started knocking like a skeleton on a tin roof after I let it sit for 3 months. I tried the whole 'run it hot and send it' thing but it just got worse. Out of desperation I wadded up a rag soaked in PB Blaster, shoved it over the injector bore, and let it sit overnight. Next morning I fired it up and the knock went away after 20 seconds. Has anyone else pulled some 'this will probably break it more' trick that actually saved them money?

Man I did something similar with a 7.3 that had a stuck turbo wastegate. I figured the thing was already shot so I sprayed half a can of Seafoam into the intake while it was running and let it smoke out the whole neighborhood. My neighbor came over thinking my truck was on fire lol. It coughed and sputtered for a good minute then smoothed right out and that wastegate started moving again. That whole 'well it's already broken' mindset is dangerous but sometimes it works. PB Blaster is basically magic in a can if you're patient enough. The rag trick on a 6.0 is nuts but I respect the hustle.

Did you try starting it while the rag was still on there or did you pull it off first? I figure the vapor from the PB Blaster probably did more work than the liquid itself. That's a risky gamble letting it soak that long with the rag right there, but I guess a 6.0 makes you do crazy things.
