My dog decided the mud puddle was more important than our walk route
We were heading down the back trail near the old railroad bridge when my beagle mix Penny spotted this massive puddle from yesterday's rain. She just planted herself in the middle of it before I could even react. I was standing there with the leash in one hand watching her roll around in brown water for a solid five minutes. When she finally came out she looked like a swamp creature with leaves stuck to her ears and mud dripping off her tail. I didn't have a towel because I forgot to grab one before we left the house. So I had to walk her home with her shaking every few steps and spraying mud all over my jeans. She gave me this goofy happy look the whole way like she'd just won a prize. Has anyone else's dog picked the worst possible spot to go full pig?

My buddy Tom had the same thing happen with his labradoodle last spring. They were walking through the park downtown and there was this drainage ditch that had like a foot of green algae water in it from the storms the night before. His dog literally dove headfirst into it and came up with a dead fish hanging out of her mouth and slime all over her face. He had to walk her six blocks back to his truck with people staring and one kid asking if that was a swamp monster dog. The worst part was she refused to let go of the fish so Tom had to drive home with it dripping on his passenger seat.

At least Tom got a free souvenir and a story that'll last longer than the smell.
