Gotta disagree a little bit. Bad drawing weeks just frustrate me and make me want to quit for a while. You're lucky you can find the bright side in it!

Wait you've actually had bad drawing weeks last a whole month? That sounds brutal. For me the bad ones are usually just a few days of hating everything I put on paper before something clicks again. Like just last week I spent three straight days trying to get a simple horse anatomy right and ended up with a pile of crumpled sketchbook pages that looked more like mutant dogs. You ever try switching mediums when you hit that wall? Sometimes I go from graphite to charcoal just to shake things up.

Oh boy, where do I even start with bad drawing weeks! I've had stretches where my sketches looked like they were drawn by a toddler having a seizure, and I'm pretty sure a few of those mutant dog sketches Sarah_Hart mentioned ended up on my desk too. I get what you mean though, Sarah - sometimes switching mediums is the only thing that saves me from setting my sketchbook on fire. But honestly, even when I'm hating every line I put down, I've noticed those rough patches somehow teach me more than the good weeks ever do. Like last month I spent four days trying to draw a simple coffee cup and ended up with something that looked more like a potato with a handle, and yet now I finally understand how ellipses work. So I guess a bad drawing week is really just my brain's way of forcing me to learn something the hard way.
