My expensive mistake at the family reunion cookoff

I spent $40 on fancy ingredients for a grill-themed dad joke punchline that completely bombed when I forgot the setup. Has anyone else thrown good money after a bad pun during showdown week?

and the worst part is I did something similar last year but with $50 worth of spices for a pun about "thyme travel" that nobody got either. I was so proud of myself walking up to the grill like I was some kind of culinary genius, then just stood there holding a bag of saffron while everyone stared at me. at least you forgot the setup, i remembered mine but the payoff was so weak my own mom asked if i needed a nap. it's like we're both paying for the privilege of being the family's comic relief.

Rule of thumb: never spend more than $10 on a joke.

Nah, a good joke is priceless and $10 is too cheap for a solid setup.
