Unpopular opinion: A $5 USB data blocker is way better than just 'being careful' with public chargers.

I used to just avoid sketchy-looking ports, but after my phone started acting weird at the airport last month, I got a little plastic dongle that only lets power through. The peace of mind is worth more than the coffee I spent on it. Anyone have a favorite brand for these things?

Totally agree, it's like locking your front door instead of just hoping nobody tries the handle. The scary part is that the bad ports don't look sketchy at all anymore, they're designed to seem normal. I keep one on my keychain now, because you never know when your battery will die in a pinch. It's the cheapest insurance you can buy for your digital life.

I get why you're saying that, Paul, but honestly I've never felt the need for a special keychain port. My phone battery lasts all day and I just use the regular charger at home or in the car. It seems like a lot of worry for something that hasn't been a real problem for me. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather keep my keys simple.

My "being careful" plan was just hoping my phone's weird behavior was a new feature. The dongle is way less stressful.
