Rant: A local band's practice session ruined my podcast recording.

Your mileage may vary, but outdoor mics picked up everything.

Oh man, tell me about it. My last outdoor recording had a perfect blend of a barking dog, a car alarm, and what I'm pretty sure was someone practicing the bagpipes (which is a special kind of audio hell). I'm starting to think my mic is just a fancy magnet for every bad sound in the neighborhood. At this point, a local band almost sounds like a welcome change, you know, like a free, terrible concert. Almost.

Ugh, I feel for you. Outdoor mics can be a nightmare for picking up background noise. I mean, one time my neighbor decided to mow their lawn right in the middle of my recording. It's just so annoying when outside stuff gets in the way.

Man, that's brutal with the band practice. My own podcast attempts are a mess because I always pick up random noise. @wells.karen is right about lawn mowers, but for me it's usually sirens or kids yelling. I swear my mic attracts every sound in a mile radius. Once I recorded what I thought was a quiet session and played it back to find a full construction site symphony. Stuff like that makes me wanna give up on outdoor recording for good.
