My $200 microphone stand broke at a gig last Saturday night

I was setting up for a set at The Rusty Nail in Memphis when the clutch on my stand just gave out. The mic dropped right onto the snare drum mid-soundcheck. Had to borrow duct tape from the sound guy to hold it in place for the whole show. Anyone else had gear fail at the worst possible moment and had to MacGyver a fix?

Did you tip the stand at all or was it just a random failure? lol

Actually I had this exact thing happen with a cheap $30 Amazon stand last month. The tilt mechanism just gave out after 3 weeks of light use, no tipping or anything rough. It was one of those aluminum folding jobs with the plastic locking teeth, and one of the teeth just snapped clean off when I was just adjusting the angle a bit. My buddy had the same issue with a similar stand from Walmart, so I think it's a common weak point on the budget ones. You might be fine if you get a slightly more expensive one with metal gears instead of plastic, just my two cents.
