Took me 3 critique groups to realize I was writing all my scenes backward.

I kept starting every chapter with a character waking up or looking out a window, and it wasn't until a member literally asked 'why are we always in the boring part first' that the penny dropped - has anyone else had a writing habit that took way too long to spot?

Isn't starting slow better than jumping straight into the action?

Read somewhere that slow starts build more tension. Guess it depends on the story though.
