That $45 prompt generator ebook I fell for last week
Saw a thread raving about a prompt pack that supposedly made writing scenes effortless, so I dropped $45 on it after a late night scroll. Turned out it was just a bunch of vague triggers and recycled hooks I could've googled for free in ten minutes. Has anyone else burned cash on a writing resource that totally missed the mark, or got any actual free prompt sources that don't suck?

The $45 pack I got had like 20 pages of "show don't tell" tips that were basically just one example repeated with different character names, plus a bunch of mood boards that did nothing for me. I ended up finding more useful stuff on a random Reddit thread about writing prompts from old writing subreddits, those are free and people actually share their work so you can see what works. For free sources, I swear by just scrolling through r/WritingPrompts and picking the weird ones, or using a random word generator and forcing myself to write a scene around the first thing that pops up. Also those old writing exercise books from the library, like "The 3AM Epiphany" by Brian Kiteley, have way better prompts than anything I paid for.
