Serious question - oldest piece of gear a customer ever tried to return?

I work at an outdoor gear shop in Portland, and last week a guy came in trying to return a pair of hiking boots he said he bought 'around 2014'. Our return policy is 90 days, so I had to shut that down fast. He got real mad and said REI would have taken them back no questions asked. Has anyone else dealt with customers trying to return stuff that's clearly way past the return window?
