Finally got a regular who doesn't argue about coupons
I work the register at a grocery store in Portland and there's this one guy who used to come through my line every Tuesday with a stack of expired coupons... he would always insist I try each one even though the system clearly rejects them. After about six months of this back and forth, he finally showed up last week with all valid coupons and even said 'I figured it out' with a little smile. Turns out his daughter helped him set up the store app on his phone so he could see which ones were actually good. Now he just scans his phone and it's over in 30 seconds flat. It took almost a year but I honestly feel like I won something today. Has anyone else had a customer finally learn the system after forever?

Jump on the daughter being the real hero here. She probably had to sit him down and walk through the app step by step while he grumbled about how things were simpler with paper clippings. I bet she's the one who finally convinced him that saving 50 cents isn't worth a full blown negotiation at the register every week. Hopefully she's getting a cut of his savings in the form of gas money or something.

That might be the longest redemption arc I've ever heard for a coupon situation. Glad to hear the daughter stepped in before you had to start hiding behind the break room cooler every Tuesday. By year two I'm guessing you would have started accepting Monopoly money just to end the interaction. Maybe now he can teach the other regulars who still try to use coupons from 2019. Small wins, honestly.

Had a guy at my old store who tried using a McDonald's coupon for a discount on a sandwich we didn't even sell. Took him three years and a different cashier every time before he finally gave up.
