Customer flipped out over a $1.50 price difference and I finally understood why
I work at a small grocery store in Austin and this lady came in yesterday screaming about a bag of chips being $1.50 more than last week. I was ready to roll my eyes until she pulled out her phone and showed me a spreadsheet she keeps of every item's price from the past 3 months. She had dates, store names, and even the shelf tags she took photos of. I realized she wasn't crazy, she was just watching inflation hit her budget harder than I ever noticed. Has anyone else had a customer who made you see things from their side like that?

People sleep on the difference $1.50 makes until it's your last $20. That spreadsheet lady is probably feeding a family on a tight budget, not being a Karen. Inflation hits poor people the hardest and that's facts. We see it on the shelves every day, prices jumping up while our wages stay flat. Good for her for keeping receipts literally and figuratively.

Ain't it funny how we call people crazy until we see the evidence right in front of us? That spreadsheet shows some serious dedication, and honestly, it's the kind of record-keeping more of us should do just to see where our money's actually going. The lady wasn't overreacting, she was just doing the math the rest of us are too tired to do.
