Pro tip: Switched from a standard two-way radio to a full headset system on a 200-foot tower crane job
Used the old handhelds for years. Thought they were fine. Last job in Cleveland, the site was loud. Wind, generators, other crews. Missed a few signals. Switched to a David Clark noise-cancelling headset with a boom mic for the next lift. The difference was night and day. Could hear the spotter perfectly, and my hands were free to operate. No more yelling or repeating. Anyone else run a full comms setup on big, noisy sites? What brand are you using?

Is the noise really that bad up there? We used to just shout and it worked fine. Seems like a lot of extra gear for something that already has a simple fix. I guess if you have the budget for fancy headsets, why not.

What's wrong with just yelling? It's free, it's simple, and it's worked for generations of operators. Adding a headset is just another piece of gear that can break or run out of battery.

Totally get where you're coming from. The yelling works until you're trying to hear over a full crew and a loud machine all day. My ears were ringing after every shift before I switched over.
