A new guy on a Houston site told me cranes were just big levers
We were setting steel for a warehouse, and he was watching from the ground. He said, 'It's just physics, right? A big lever with a hook.' I had to stop and explain the wind charts, load charts, and ground pressure for two hours. He left with a different view of our job. How do you handle people who don't get what we really do?

It's just a crane, not rocket science.

Honestly, the new guy had a point though, it is basically a big lever. @robertb47 is right that it's not rocket science, it's just applied physics you learn on the job. All those charts and specs are just the details for using that lever safely in the real world. Most jobs look simple from the outside until you have to do them right.

Lol true, but @sean782 where's the line then? Is a car just a fancy chair with wheels? Feels like that logic can make any skilled job sound simple.
