Pro tip: I finally understood why my color formulas kept failing on one client.

Last month, a regular came in and her usual blonde toner just would not take, even after 45 minutes. I asked her if she had started any new medicine, and she said yes, a new blood pressure pill. I looked it up and it can change hair texture. Has anyone else had a client's medication mess with their color results?

Ever have a client's meds make their hair act like it's coated in Teflon? I swear I've had that happen and felt like I was losing my mind.

That Teflon feeling is usually from a buildup of silicones, not meds. Some shampoos and conditioners have heavy dimethicone that coats the hair over time. You need a clarifying wash with something simple like a sulfate shampoo once a week to strip it back. It can feel exactly like you described, weirdly slick and almost plastic.
