Debate: Should we charge extra for thinning shears? A salon incident changed my mind

Last month at Ulta in Austin, a client threw a fit when I charged her $15 extra for thinning her thick hair. She said it's part of a basic cut. But using those shears wears them down way faster, and they cost me $120 to replace. I'm stuck wondering if we should build it into the base price or keep it as an add-on. What do you all do at your salons when someone wants heavy texturizing with thinning shears?

Wait, she actually threw a fit over fifteen bucks? In the middle of Ulta? That's wild. I mean, I get that people don't always think about wear and tear on tools, but charging extra for thinning shears is totally fair. Those things are delicate and expensive to replace, and heavy texturizing absolutely kills them faster than a standard cut. Honestly, if she's that mad about an extra fifteen, she probably wouldn't be happy with a higher base price either.

Respectfully, I actually think the wear and tear argument gets used as an excuse to nickel-and-dime clients.
