Spent $200 on a UV water filter for my basement and now I think my tap water is safer from the grid

I dropped $200 on a UV filter system from Amazon after reading about how municipal water treatment plants can be compromised by bad actors or just plain negligence. Had a guy at the hardware store tell me that chlorine doesn't kill everything and cryptosporidium outbreaks are real. Hooked it up last weekend and tested the water before and after with a home kit - the difference in bacteria levels was wild. Makes me wonder how many other 'safe' systems are just theater. Anyone else here done a deep dive on their own water supply after reading some of the r/conspiracy threads?

Can't believe that hardware store guy warned you about crypto and you actually saw a crazy difference in your test results. Makes you really stop and question all that "safe drinking water" messaging from the city. I'm kind of shook that a $200 Amazon gadget might be more reliable than a whole municipal treatment plant.

Yeah I read some study about filters actually removing more stuff than people think. @keithbutler wild right?

Did you see the same study I did about activated carbon filters catching heavy metals? @stellachen that test result difference keithbutler mentioned is honestly terrifying. It makes me wonder how many other things slipped through the cracks all these years. I changed my whole approach to tap water after reading that report - better safe than sorry with stuff you can't see.
