Showerthought: my uncle's old story about the 1980 election made me rethink a lot of things
He was a poll worker in Chicago back then and swears he saw a supervisor mark a whole box of ballots for Reagan before they were even counted. I always brushed it off as family gossip until I found a local news clipping from 1981 mentioning an 'irregularity' investigation that just vanished. It makes you wonder how many small stories like that get buried before anyone connects the dots. Has anyone else heard a weird first-hand account that lines up with a bigger theory?

Family stories get twisted over time, and old news clippings about "irregularities" usually just mean some paperwork got messed up. Poll workers have strict rules, and a supervisor marking a whole box in plain sight makes no sense. Those investigations vanish because they find nothing worth reporting. It's way more likely your uncle misremembered a boring ballot check than uncovered a secret plot.

Yeah but people mess up all the time.

Honestly reading what sanchez.pat said, it does make sense that memories get fuzzy. My grandma swore up and down about some town election drama, but when we looked it up, it was just a tiny story about a lost ballot box that got found an hour later. The boring truth never makes for a good family story.
