Stumbled on my old cache of SIMMs and had a flashback

I was sorting through some old parts bins and found a pile of SIMM memory modules. It reminded me of when diagnosing a PC meant pulling each stick to test them individually. These days, memtest runs in the background while I work on something else. I don't miss the time it took, but there was a satisfaction in the manual hunt. Funny how tech moves on.

Remember those old POST code cards? I kept one tucked in my toolkit and it saved me so many times with bad SIMMs. Just pull one, boot, check the code, and repeat until it posted lol. That manual fix felt like a real win when it finally worked.

My dad's old office had this entire drawer labeled "misc boards" full of those... mostly dead ISA sound cards if I'm honest. The smell of that room was just dust and ozone from an ancient monitor left on all night. Pulling those to get a game to work felt like defusing a bomb, one wrong yank and the whole afternoon was shot.
