A pigeon stole my sandwich on the 7 train last Tuesday and now I pack lunch differently

I was minding my own business heading into Manhattan when this big gray pigeon hopped right onto the seat next to me and grabbed half my turkey club right out of the bag. Now I keep everything in a hard plastic container with a locking lid, ever since that bird stared me down like I owed him money. Has anyone else had an animal steal food mid-commute?

You ever think that pigeon knew exactly what it was doing? Like it saw you coming, waited for the right moment. I swear those things have a system. A buddy of mine had a seagull snatch his hot dog right off the grill at Rockaway Beach. Now he stands with his back to the water and one eye on the sky. City birds are straight up criminal masterminds.

@joelt70 your buddy's got the right idea. Next step is a helmet with a rearview mirror.

Did you catch that article a while back about how birds actually pass down tips to each other? Scientists found pigeons in London watching people drop food at specific spots then teaching the younger ones the same routes. I bet that pigeon that got you was a second generation pro. Those city birds are like a whole underground network, they probably have a little bird group chat about which humans are the easiest marks. Your buddy with the seagull story just proves it, they're all in on it together. Honestly I respect the hustle, they're just trying to survive out there.
