A guy on the 7:15 train said something about bike lanes that stuck with me

He was talking loud on his phone, telling someone that adding bike lanes on Main Street was a waste of money and just made traffic worse for everyone else. I've always been for more bike lanes, but he said his delivery job now takes 15 minutes longer every day because of them. It made me realize I only ever thought about it from my own view, not from someone who has to drive a van for work all day. Has anyone else had a commute change that made you see the other side of a traffic debate?

My buddy Dave's pizza route got way harder after they put those big planters in the middle of Elm Street. He used to make left turns all day.

You know what gets me? Those planters are probably killing business for shops on the other side of the street too. How is anyone supposed to pull over and run in real quick? It's like they designed it for looks and forgot people actually live and work there. Does the city even talk to delivery drivers before they do this stuff? Bet they didn't.

That guy's 15 extra minutes is rough, but I see delivery vans parked right in the bike lane on my street every single day. They just block it. So the lanes are there but not really working for anyone. Laura_allen, your buddy Dave probably just has to plan his route a little different now. Cities change, traffic patterns shift, it's not the end of the world. People act like one street project ruins everything forever.
